Mission Statement

The Areopagus is an interdenominational Christian study center dedicated to serving the metro-Atlanta area.

The mission of the The Areopagus is to help equip Christians for ministry in the church and to effectively engage our society and culture with the transforming truth and love of Jesus Christ. To this end, we offer a creative and substantive curriculum that expands their knowledge base, stimulates critical thinking, and challenges them to live faithfully and consistently in accordance with the principles and practices of a Biblical Christian worldview.

To accomplish our mission, The Areopagus sponsors seminars, workshops, and forums on a variety of topics relevant to contemporary Christian education and ministry, including...

  • Biblical studies;
  • Christian apologetics;
  • Christian history;
  • Comparative worldviews and religions;
  • Contemplative Christian spirituality;
  • Contemporary cultural issues;
  • Literature and the arts; and
  • Science and the Christian faith.

 Statement of Faith

The programs and ministries of The Areopagus are open to all who sincerely seek knowledge and truth. For those who serve in official positions with The Areopagus, we adhere to the principle, "In essentials unity; in non-essentials liberty; and in all things charity." This Statement of Faith highlights those essentials on which we are unified -- the traditional core doctrines of the Christian faith that we regard as necessary to preserve the spiritual integrity of our work.

We believe in one God manifest in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that God is the creator of all things and that he is infinite, eternal, sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient, transcendent, immanent, and the source of all goodness.

We believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ, that he lived a sinless life, that he was crucified as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity, and that he was resurrected from the grave. We believe Christ will come again at the end of this present age to judge the living and the dead and to establish his kingdom for all eternity.

We believe in the living and active presence of God in the lives of all true Christians in the person of the Holy Spirit, our divine comforter, intercessor, and source of inspiration of whom Jesus prophesied, "He will lead you into all truth".

We believe in one universal church and the spiritual unity of all who have committed their lives to Jesus Christ.

We believe the Bible was supernaturally inspired by the Holy Spirit and is historically reliable and doctrinally authoritative in all matters related to faith and practice.

We believe that humanity, though created in the image of God, is corrupted and spiritually separated from God by personal sin. In our natural state, though still retaining a spark of divine light and an innate awareness of divine moral law, we are incapable of having a personal spiritual relationship with God, nor can we earn or merit God's grace by our own initiative.

We believe that individuals are reconciled to God by divine grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that true faith and spiritual conversion is manifest through beliefs, values, actions, and lifestyles that are progressively Christ-like.
